Changing Times

Written as a theme song for a conference entitled “Changing Times. Changeless Christ.” I don’t mind admitting that I’m often confused and conflicted about certain issues and that I’d be lost without Jesus as my “source of loving common sense.”

Changing Times

Changing times. Who can understand
them, find their rhythm and reason?
Tidal wave, sweeping all of us along.
Overload. Too much information
To digest in a lifetime
Changing times
Who can make it all make sense?

Not the anchorman or columnist
Not the optimist or pessimist
Don’t ask me. I tend to lose my way
Too confused to take a stand on
Issues of the day

Every day something else seduces. Personalities. Products
Each new find obsolete within the year
Talking cars, microchip and laser. Satellites reading newsprint
Changing times.
Who can make it all make sense?

Marchers, media, cameras, lights
Chanting for their narcissistic rights
Don’t ask me. I tend to lose my way
Too confused to take a stand on
Issues of the day

Changeless Christ. Alpha and Omega. Same today and tomorrow
With us now. Faithful to the end of time
God’s right hand. Keeper of the planet picking up all the pieces
Changeless Christ
Source of loving common sense

Not the tongue-in-cheek satirist
Not the honey tongued evangelist
Don’t ask me. I tend to lose my way
Too confused to take a stand on
Issues of the day

Changing times
Changing times
Changing times
Who can make it all make sense?
