Everybody Wants To Quit Sometimes

In 1984, the weight of various responsibilities and challenges got me thinking about quitting. I suspect that the desire to “walk away and leave it all behind” is common to us all, especially during difficult seasons in our lives.
Today I am grateful for the way my Lord, my life-partner and my friends helped me fight “this running urge.”

Everybody Wants To Quit Sometimes

Everybody wants to quit sometimes
Walk away and leave it all behind
Leave it all in search of better times
Leave it all to someone else

Everybody gets the urge to run
Out the door away from everyone
What’s it like to be a vagabond?
What’s it like to be alone?

These responsibilities
Suffocate the child in me
Stifle all my creativity
Have me forgetting the sound of my laughter

Everybody longs to get away
Tempted by the thought of simpler days
Help me, Lord, I find it so hard to stay
Help me fight this running urge

I am counting on your strength
On my lover and on my friends
Hoping, hoping that tomorrow brings
The sweet release of my laughter

I am counting on your strength
On my lover and on my friends
Hoping, hoping that tomorrow brings
The sweet release of my laughter

Everybody wants to quit sometimes
Walk away and leave it all behind
Leave it all in search of easier times
Leave it all to someone else

Everybody wants to quit sometimes
