This song was inspired by the comforting, maternal image of God loving us and singing over us like a devoted mother singing a lullaby to her child, an image found in one of the minor prophets.
This year (2023), feeling that the song was not quite complete, I inserted the actual text that inspired this song – Zephaniah 3:17 – as a bridge. Sometimes it takes seventeen years before a song feels complete!
I see
I see your face
Face full of love
Love for me
I see
Scales are falling from my eyes
I see you smiling
Your praise is on my tongue
The battle for my heart’s been won
Lord, I see your face
I hear
I hear your voice
Voice full of peace
Peace for me
I hear
Stubborn wax removed from ears
I hear you singing
Your praise is on my tongue
The battle for my heart’s been won
Lord, I hear your voice
The Lord will take great delight in you
The Lord will quiet you with his love
The Lord will rejoice
As you recognize his voice singing over you
Yes, the Lord will take great delight in you
Yes, the Lord will quiet you with his love
Yes, the Lord will rejoice
As you recognize his voice singing over you
I feel
I feel your touch
Touch full of care
Care for me
I feel
Scabs give way to brand new skin
I feel your fingers
Your praise is on my tongue
The battle for my heart’s been won
Lord, I feel your touch
I see. I hear. I feel. You
