How Long?

In The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Narnia and its inhabitants longed for Aslan’s return and the end of winter’s icy grip. In a similar way, especially when personal or global situations are especially difficult or painful, followers of Jesus can’t help but long for the promised return of The Coming One. I’ve named the melody “Longing.”

How Long?

How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?
How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?

All your promises
Are a hopeful kiss
Stirring longing and desire in us
We can’t wait much longer
For your Day’s new dawning
Jesus, make us stronger
As we live for you

How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?
How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?

Then the tears will flow
As the wounded know
That at long, long last it’s time to go
To the celebration
Of your coronation
As the whole creation
Brings its praise to you

How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?
How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?

For the Coming One
For the Coming One
For the Coming One
You’re the Coming One

Every eye will see
All the majesty
Of the king who fought to set us free
We will not remember
All our dark Decembers
When our hearts are embers
Burning bright for you

For the Coming One
For the Coming One
For the Coming One
You’re the Coming One

How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?
How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?
How long do we have to wait, Lord
For the coming of the Coming One?
