I Love You Just The Way You Are

Marja and I had been married twenty-seven years when I wrote this song. Together, we had made it through the big Three-Oh and the big Four-Oh. The next Big-Oh loomed! This love song protests “ageism” while celebrating a commitment that can laugh about the unstoppable process of becoming and looking older.

I Love You Just The Way You Are

There’s not a thing about you that I’d like to change
I love you just the way you are
Don’t try to mask the years that brought us to this place
I love you just the way you are

I love the way your voice conveys your lust for life
The way your smile lights up the room
The way your hands and arms fit nicely into mine
I love you just the way you are

No need to wish for different hair or younger skin
Perhaps you think me quite bizarre
But I see beauty in the way you’ve always been
I love you just the way you are

Why would you dream of rather being someone else
No-one I know compares to you
Nothing attracts me like your face and body do
I love you just the way you are

No need to wish for different hair or younger skin
Perhaps you think me quite bizarre
But I see beauty in the way you’ve always been
I love you just the way you are

No need to wish for different hair or younger skin
Perhaps you think me quite bizarre
But I see beauty in the way you’ve always been
I love you just the way you are
I love you just the way you are
I love you just the way you are
